Discipleship Training
Leader: Diana Burdick

Discipleship Training is about small groups getting together and learning various disciplines in the lives of believers in the church.

*********************************************************************

Our current Sunday evening study is based on a video series called "Faith Lessons on the Promised Land:  Crossroads of the World".

Because God speaks to us through Scriptures, studyng them is a rewarding experience. We most clearly understand God's truths when we know the cultural context within which He spoke and acted and the perception of the people with whom He communicated. The purpose of this study is to help us better understand God's revealed mission for our lives by enabling us to hear and see His words in their original context.

We will be studying the people and events of the Bible in their geographical and historical contexts. Once we know the who, what, and where of a Bible story, we will be able to understand the why. By deepening our understanding of God's Word, we can strengthen our relationship with God.

The Promised Land was the area within which God's people were to serve Him faithfully as the world watched. Through their righteous living, the Hebrews were to reveal the one true God, Yahweh, to the world. Our mission, as Christians today, is the same one He gave to the Israelites. We are to live obediently within the world so that through us the world may know that our God is the one true God.

July 11--Standing at the Crossroads: The Israelites were placed at crossroads of their world to influence the world.

July 18--Wet Feet: The significance of the crossing of the Jordan River.

July 25--First Fruits: The significance of the battle of Jerico.

Aug. 1--Confronting Evil: Failures of the tribe of Dan and Samson.

Aug. 8--Iron of Culture: The story of David and Goliath.

There is also a Bible study on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. that is based on a curriculum from Lifeway called Baptist Adults. It covers a variety of topics that change focus on a quarterly basis.

If there is a particular study or type of study you would like to have in Discipleship Training, let us know and we will try to arrange for it to be available. We would like to have more than one study offered on Sunday and Wednesday evenings so small groups can find a study that fits their individual needs.
